Information: I'll be the first to say that I am NOT one of the "Cool Kids." As I asked everyone on our team to write an article, I reflected for a moment and decided to write my own. In addition to the unsurpassed excersize you get from riding a bike, there is great satisfaction in knowing that you share a common interest with fellow cyclists. It's not just the workout. Jeff and I began meeting fellow cyclists during team rides with a local cycling club, doing two 30-35 mile treks every week during the spring and summer. In most cases, things were fine and we rode hard enough to say we had a great workout. [ read more... ] I eventually moved into the B group and started meeting new folks every day. I then realized that, as I moved up, the people just became more and more ... lets call it ... "snooty." You'd say hi, smile and wave and you get a turned up nose because you have an alluminum frame, or perhaps because you drink a beer at 10:30 in the morning. The nerve of some people. I then met up with some really nice riders, namely Shawn and Ross and rode with them one afternoon. We hit it off right away telling jokes and laughing during our treks. For some reason, we really didn't fit in with the "COOL KIDS" from the cycling club. Oh well, no love lost. I have to say that there were some REALLY rude riders in the group that I simply didn't want to be part of. Can't take a joke? Don't like to laugh? Go ahead: "GET OUT OF THE LINE!!" Jeff, Ross, Shawn and I decided to start organizing rides of our own, one more hilarious than the next. We made jokes, drank beer at 10:30 in the morning and had a blast. We were not hurting anyone, and we were getting great workouts. Shortly thereafter, we met Christine at a function and invited her - Whew! The girl could kick some asphalt! I was immediatly impressed and her sense of humor was right there with ours. Can we have girls on our team? OF COURSE! Bring it! Then came Colleen - with an insatiable appitite for working out. Just perfect. Rode with her the first time at an OCSJ ride - she did just wonderful! Her pace has increased and the "Hamster" is yukking it up with the rest of us. Add Christy and Jen Druce to the mix, now we have Team Hangover. When I built this website all i could think about was hopping back on the bike to ride with my "best buds." As we plan our first Skyline Drive trip, my excitement is at a level higher than I had ever expected. I am praying that we all find more members to make this team a wonderful fund raising experience for our loved ones and those in need of us most. Hope your tires always stay inflated, (we're with ya, Jeff....) Rob Blanda Team Mechanic "Team Hangover"
