Brigantine Century Scheduled PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 21 April 2010 23:01

cfiles19381We have finally scheduled the Brigantine 140. All members are welcome to join in! We plan on leaving Atco, NJ doing a 100 mile trek through the pine barrens and down to Manahawkin, back down to brigantine. We will spend the night in Brigantine, then ride back 40 miles the next day. This is a great training event for the LDR if you are participating in that ride as well.

Although there are no supported stops, we will hit the wawa's and the 7-11s along the way. The house is inexpensive and there is a restaurant and bar right around the corner.

The ride home will only be 40 miles.

Written by Administrator
Monday, 19 April 2010 13:00

Our Team is listed here: http://www.linuxha.com/other/non-ha/bicycle/LD_teams.htmllongestday

Team Hangover and a few other non-members are now bracing for the 208 mile trek through New Jersey called the longest day ride. So far our participants are Hagan, Blanda, Kronberger, Smith and Sennott.

The Longest Day (LD) is an annual single day, self supported double century ride through NJ (from Port Jervis NY to Cape May) presented by the CJBC. It occurs on Saturday, June 12th 2010. There is also a century, starting in Allentown NJ, and a double metric, starting along the Griggstown Canal. As far as double centuries go its a relatively easy ride but is not without certain challenges. There will be two meetings to help with teams and other information. They are, Tuesday, April 13th @ 7 pm and Tuesday, May 18th @ 7 pm, both in the East Brunswick Public! The cost is $40 for the event and $15 for membership to the CJBC. Further information is available via my Longest Day pages and the meetings. Any questions can be asked here, via email or by attending the meetings.

junior_teamYesterday's weather was absolutely beautiful weather. We strapped the bikes on the truck and made our way to Batsto Village. Jen, Jeff, Christy, Ethan, Jeffrey, ZJ and myself had a beautiful ride down Bulltown Road, just off Batsto.

The kids really surprised me in their abilities to ride 15 miles up and down the rolling hills of the Pine Barrens! Although ZJ pooped out at mile 11, he got his second wind shortly thereafter...

Icicle Ride Scheduled PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert
Saturday, 27 February 2010 18:25

Well, it's time to stretch your legs! Get out of the house and participate in our first organized ride of the year. The icicle ride on March 27th in delaware offers three different loops to satisfy anyone. I'll assume that our team will do the 62 mile loop, but many of the beginners may elect to take the shorter routes.

With some luck, I'll convince the wife to take ZJ on the 21 mile route to get him all warmed up for the season.

It's still questionable whether or not im taking the recumbent on the ride, but im optimistic.

I spoke with Rick (on of the organizers) and apparently this is a smaller ride, but a lot of fun. Lets hope we get the entire team at once to show our dedication!

Please remember to edit the event calendar and let us know if you are attending. Jeff has emailed instructions to all of you.

Follow That Recumbent! PDF Print E-mail

front_drive_trainYou can now follow the "INSTANT" progress of the recumbent build by clicking on the "THE  RECUMBENT" tab at the top of the page, or by clicking on http://threcumbent.blogspot.com

As we snap pictures of the phone they will instantly be posted to not only the website, but to your team hangover email. Both Ross and I have access to post to the blog. Although the blog says "posted by Robert Blanda" it may have come from Ross' phone so don't blame me for everything that gets posted!

Enjoy the progress!

A recumbent bicycle is a bicycle that places the rider in a laid-back reclining position. Most recumbent riders choose this type of design for ergonomic reasons; the rider’s weight is distributed comfortably over several square feet of the back and buttocks. On a traditional upright bicycle, the body weight rests on a few square inches of the sit bones, the feet, and the hands.

undefined

Most recumbent models also have an aerodynamic advantage; the reclined, legs-forward position of the rider’s body presents a smaller frontal profile. A recumbent holds the world speed record for a bicycle, and they were banned from international racing in 1934.[1]

Recumbents are available in a wide range of configurations, including: long to short wheelbase; large, small, or a mix of wheel sizes; overseat, underseat, or no-hands steering; and rear wheel or front wheel drive.

Team Recovers from Stomach Flu PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 14 January 2010 14:25

sickAfter having a blast at the holiday party, we all came down with a mysterious stomach flu. After three days, we seem to have recovered. However, general consensus says that junion member Zee Jay was the culprit.

Someone who gets gastroenteritis might have stomach cramps, nausea (say: naw-zee-uh), throwing up, and diarrhea (say: dye-uh-ree-uh). He or she will probably feel pretty sick for a day or 2 but will then get better.

There is no vaccine or cure for gastroenteritis. If you have it, you'll want to rest until you feel better. If you're throwing up, don't eat solid food. Instead, sip fluids, such as water, or chew on bits of ice. Your mom or dad also might give you an oral rehydration solution (say: or-ul ree-hye-dray-shun suh-loo-shun). That's a fancy name for those special fruit-flavored drinks and Popsicles that contain carbohydrates and electrolytes - stuff your body can get low on when you're dehydrated from diarrhea or throwing up.

Holiday Party Jan 9th, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 10 January 2010 15:38

holidaypartyThe Holiday Party was a great Success! We ate, we drank and we were cerainly merry! The team exchanged "worst gifts" with a Yankee Swap - it was very hilarious!

Christine "Crash" travelled all the way up from Virginia and everyone, including Steve, Chris M. and Shawn made it to the party. All was fun! We kicked the keg just in time so that no one was going to be too drunk for the ride home!

Thanks to all of you for a wonderful party! Maybe by next year we will have to have a larger venue!

Watch out for the penguin!

Delayed Holiday Party: Team Hangover PDF Print E-mail

Thursday, 07 January 2010 13:17

nowhiningThe Team Hangover Holiday party is scheduled for this Saturday, January 9th at 6:00 PM. We will have a keg of Miller Lite, and some assorted wines, etc. The rule is, if you're drinking something else, please bring it with you. A kitty will be out to help with the keg.

The food is being coordinated by Christine Blanda. Please contact her about that.

The plan is to bring your rollers, so we can do a team training ride. We'll hop on the rollers about noon from what I can see. I'll be cooking a nice big breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning if you are interested.

The Eagles game starts at 8pm, so we'll all be watching at the bar.

Please make sure you bring your jersey - I'd like to get a team photo of everyone at the bar. I have the camera gear ready.
